Born in Italy, family forced to leave behind everything, including their names upon arrival at Ellis Island so very long ago. She honored her family by adhering to strict rules of conduct. Married and gave birth to a son. Her life was spent honoring the roles she had been given, but her heart forever longed to return home. My grandmother never made it back in her lifetime. There are no absolutes in this life, the roles and rules are pieces of the puzzle, it is up to us ultimately to see if they fit.
